Recently Facebook had a big meeting that occurred with a lot of intrigue and secrecy.
Not only was Facebook present along with a ton of media but also so were 2 other obscure companies… FourSquare and Gowalla. What was the big announcement all about?
Facebook was announcing a new Facebook feature called Facebook Places.
Upon hearing about it I immediately update my Facebook application on my iphone and presto the places appeared dead center.
For those of you who don’t know, recently many companies have been pursuing the integration of geo-location application inside of their programs. Foursquare who has 4 million subscribers allows you to “check in” at businesses and earn badges (just like girl scouts and boy scouts) as well as receive specials for becoming a Mayor of that business.
Gowalla also asks you to “check in “ but their subscription is only 1 million. So why was I so excited when FB made their announcement?
It’s related directly to the numbers...
Gowalla ……………..1million potential people
4 Square …………….. 4 million potential people
FourSquare ……….. 500 millionpotential people!
Alex, I think Ill take FB places for 500 million!!!!
